The Chinese Defence Attaché to Ghana, Colonel Dou Yan, paid a courtesy visit to the ECOWAS Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre (MMCC) Zone F on 21 July 2026. He was warmly received by the Director of the Centre, Navy Captain Daniel Gnamien Ehu.
The visit was primarily to extend an invitation to the Centre to participate in the 99th Anniversary celebration of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Colonel Dou Yan also shared details of the forthcoming African deployment of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy hospital ship, Peace Ark, which is expected to call at Ghana in October 2026 as part of its humanitarian mission across Africa.
He explained that the hospital ship would provide free medical services and healthcare to selected patients during its stay in Ghana. He further extended an invitation to the Director and staff of MMCC Zone F to visit the vessel when it arrives.
The meeting also served as an opportunity to exchange goodwill messages and strengthen the cordial relationship between the Chinese Embassy and MMCC Zone F. In his remarks, Navy Captain Daniel Gnamien Ehu expressed his appreciation to Colonel Dou Yan for the thoughtful visit, the invitation, and the continued cooperation between the Centre and the People’s Republic of China. He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to maintaining and further strengthening the longstanding relationship with the Chinese people and their institutions.
