A delegation from the Petroleum Commission paid a courtesy visit to the ECOWAS Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre (MMCC) Zone F on 17 July 2026 to strengthen collaboration and reinforce the longstanding partnership between the two institutions.
The delegation, comprising Mr. Emmanuel Basintale Amadu, Consultant, and Mr. Benjamin Siaw Leyeg, Petroleum Security Officer, was received by the Director of MMCC Zone F, Captain (Navy) Daniel Gnamien Ehu.
During the meeting, the delegation conveyed compliments from the Executive Director of the Petroleum Commission and commended MMCC Zone F for its continued dedication to enhancing maritime security within the region. They reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to maintaining a strong working relationship with the Centre and expressed appreciation for the timely sharing of maritime security information.
The delegation further requested that the Petroleum Commission be more actively involved in the Centre’s maritime activities to gain a better understanding of operational challenges and identify areas where the Commission could provide support. They also requested to receive regular operational updates, reports, and official communications from the Centre to enhance information sharing and cooperation.
Additionally, the delegates highlighted several security-related challenges affecting the petroleum sector and discussed how closer collaboration with MMCC Zone F could contribute to addressing these concerns more effectively.
In his remarks, Captain (Navy) Daniel Gnamien Ehu welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation for the visit. He reiterated the Centre’s commitment to fostering stronger partnerships with key maritime stakeholders in promoting maritime safety and security across the ECOWAS Zone F area of responsibility.
The Deputy Director also delivered a presentation outlining the mandate, functions, and strategic role of MMCC Zone F. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders within the maritime domain and briefed the delegation on key activities and programmes scheduled on the Centre’s annual calendar.
Following the discussions, the delegation toured the Operations Room, where the Watchkeeper, Leading Seaman Otchere George, provided an overview of the Centre’s maritime domain awareness capabilities and demonstrated the monitoring and surveillance activities conducted to support maritime security operations within the Zone.
